Our Ranch

The ranch is high fenced and is comprised of 635 acres of rolling hills, covered in predominately Post Oak and Live Oak Trees. Two Creeks, along with 17 ponds, provide water for our cattle operation as well as our thriving whitetail deer population.

Our Family

They say it’s in you or its not; the love of cattle and ranch life. Rey’s favorite summer trips in the 1970’s were going to visit his grandfather’s ranch where they ran Brahman cows crossed with Brown Swiss. Unfortunately, the ranch was sold off many years ago. The cows he had growing up where a mix of Santa Gertrudis cows and a few Brahman. As he paid his way through college, he was forced to sell what cows he had left to finish school.

Determined to start again, the current Salinas Ranch was started from scratch. What started as a childhood dream has now become reality. Back in 1988 while Rey was still in college at Texas State University he drew on piece of paper what the future ranch was going to look like. The drawing included an entrance with a large pond in front of the house, two German Shepherds in the front yard, a house overlooking the pond and pastures behind the house full of Brahman cattle. Fast forward to the present that young mans dream became realty. When you visit Salinas Ranch you will go past a three-acre pond to the main house, and be greeted by three German Shepherds. The ranch is home to some of the finest Polled Brahman cattle in the United States. Through hard work, determination and a little luck the American dream is alive and well.

Rey met his wife Cindy while they attended Texas State University. Cindy is from Spencer Iowa and came to Texas to attend school. Her family farms corn and soybean on some of the finest soil in the state of Iowa. They have three sons Ryan, Brandon and Luke. The three boys grew up on the ranch and still are involved in the day-to-day operations of the ranch. The boys attended Texas Tech University, Texas A&M University and Texas State University respectfully.

The Ranch

Salinas Ranch is a high fenced property located in the beautiful rolling hills of Washington County near Carmine, Texas.  The ranch has a diverse landscape with varying terrain from Post Oak gravel hills, brush, improved hay meadows to fertile bottom land along Cedar Creek.  The ranch is well watered with 17 ponds, two creeks and seasonal slews. Twelve pastures are utilized for rotational grazing. Trophy whitetail abound on the ranch.

The Cattle

Salinas Ranch is home to one of the largest polled Brahman herds in the country.   They began their herd with horned Brahman genetics.  Things changed when they purchased a 100% scurred Sugarland bull that produced great easy fleshing polled cattle.  Then the oppurtunity came up to purchase the majority of the Edwards Brahman herd out of Stark Florida.  In that group of cattle there were some exceptional polled genetics that became the foundation of their predominately polled Brahman herd.  They were determined to create new polled genetic lines via natural breeding and IVF. The focus of the ranch is to produce functional fertile cattle with the cattleman in mind.
